The interval

No. That it can not be
That death is the end
Where does the 'I' go

Is it like a long sleep?
From which the 'I' wakes up again
In a semi dark womb?

What happen to memories?
Do they burn with the body?
Or get eaten by voracious worms?

Or do they travel with the soul
Lying dormant in a miniscule corner?
Countless memories
From countless lives
Over the aeons?
And every now and then an atom escapes
And enters dreams and
Infests ideas and thoughts
Getting recycled...

If death was stopping,
Whats the whole point?
Life is meaningless.

Or, life is nothing but
a series of moments
fresh like dew
until the interval
of a long sleep

And the wheel spins
Again and again

  2. The puzzle remains so
and it remained so for ages,
from the dawn of time and life,
and will stay puzzling for ages to come.
memories, they are a mix bag and always so.

  3. I can understand the rage, helpless rage, with which you start.
Isn’t life just like lightning, a sudden flash that disturbs the eternal night?
The Law of Conservation of Energy; that energy can’t be created nor destroyed,
always comes to my mind whenever I think about the question you raise.
    Beautifully expressed anguish!

  4. Which is the birth, which, the death? Millions of cells in our body die every second; millions replace them. So, whose death are you talking about? On a macro level, thousands die every day and thousands are born every day in earth? Whose world is that ends, whose born? In the vast cosmos millions of stars and planets die and come to life in the endless cycle? Who is that dies, who the born?

And soul! Why is it that we think that only humans have a soul? If we have, then so must have the dogs and cats and all the rest of the living world.

Memories. I am reminded of movies. Show it to a primitive man and he would vehemently disagree that the images on the screen are not alive, wouldn't he? So are memories, like a movie played before you.

We can ponder on all this like millions who have done before us. The answer would be the same; we came from nothingness; and go back to nothingness. Some call it illusion, some call it Maya...

  5. some times i wake up in the middle of the night and i see the senselessness of the petty thoughts and desires of our mundane existance...the truth is revealed to the subconscious..only to be forgotten in the morning light... and yet i cant imagine that there will be a sleep from which the 'i' as i know it will cease to exist! the 'I' that I identity with this life. this body and this circle of kith and kin i have known as my own... the thoughts and likes and dislikes that make me 'me'.. all dissolved into 'like B says,nothingness... Its fascintaing and frustrating.. this mystery is what makes life so interesting i guess.

  6. Aint it quite early to be so philosophical???
As long as the consciousness of the triviality of the "I" is put in the back burner life will be good to us and to the ones near and far.But then ........!!!

  7. This place is a dream
only a sleeper considers it real
    then death comes like dawn
    and you wake up laughing
    at what you thought
    was your grief
